March 2014 saw the release of the band's debut self-titled five track EP and a launch event with spectacle and atmosphere to rival even the biggest acts, transforming the Hoey Moey into a packed out stadium experience. The EP has been well received, even topping local music store charts. In making it, the band and their instruments piled into a car on a journey to Melbourne. There, at the prestigious Red Door Sounds with Tyson Fish at the helm, it was recorded and mixed. The five tracks were then mastered by the highly acclaimed Forrester Savell. 

 

In the one year since their explosive entrance to the scene – taking out second place in a battle of the bands – the boys have already accomplished some impressive milestones. The biggest achievement by far was dominating a band competition which secured them a slot at Vans Warped Tour Australia. They have also supported the likes of Kingswood, Closure in Moscow, Twelve Foot Ninja, Jericco, Calling all Cars, and played at the Wallapalooza festival on the Gold Coast, and the Headspace and M.A.D.E festivals locally.

 

Forming in 2011 and originally known as ‘Shepherd’, co-founders Chris and Jarred initially based the band in Melbourne. After a long period of song-writing, they returned to Coffs Harbour to fill the ranks with Paul and Blake. Each member brings their own eclectic tastes to the group, yet some are more noticeable than others. 90's grunge has influenced the guitar driven styling of the band, along with bands like Tool, Silverchair, and Karnivool.

 

The band is constantly trying to evolve their sound and push the boundaries of their song-writing, creating original and engaging music that transports you to another dimension. Each song possesses its own infectious grooves and melodies to move and excite you. Flying Giant are a cataclysm of refined power with an undoubtedly unique live experience like no other.
